I haven’t been writing [insert usual work-overload excuses
here], but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been out to the site regularly. At
least once a week and sometimes twice. Since the end of September, the house
has been roofed, complete with shingles.

We had to do some quick decision-making on Tuesday, October
7th. Over the weekend, the builder said he needed our siding and
shingle choices. Sunday and Monday, I tried playing with the colors available
on the Certainteed website.
They have a “design center” which suffers from every other online color-picker
I’ve ever worked with: the colors only work if you are only going to look at
them online. Our house, however, is actual – not virtual. So Carl took a look
at the colors I was picking – all too bright (value¹) as far as he was
concerned – and stuck his tongue out.
Rather than argue that through, I decided to wait until we
could look at the swatches on site. Both of our first choices would have been
more expensive, and we aren’t investing in this kind of aesthetics (value²).
There were perfectly good choices that wouldn’t cost extra.
Seagrass it is.
With Charcoal Black shingles.
Certainteed's Monogram 46 Seagrass -- Approximately |
Certainteed's Landmark Shingles Charcoal Black -- Pretty Close |
Don’t worry, the house won’t really be quite these colors.
Probably. Depending on your monitor.
